UL / NRTL

Any electrical product placed on the US and Canadian markets must satisfy and perform safety testing to a degree of standards. There is a common misunderstanding that UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is the only organization that can certify and apply labels to UL standards. However, UL operates two unique entities, one being an independent body focused on standards development and a second Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL) like TÜV, MET that is capable of issuing a US product certification much like other NRTLs.
